The Haven, a short film about hope

Belfast & Lisburn Women’s Aid short film, The Haven, is first and foremost an expression of hope despite the struggles and challenges faced by women and children due to adverse and difficult life circumstances resulting from domestic violence.

Instinctively we know storytelling and art are important to children. Through their art work, we bring the two together, the children telling their real life stories; each piece uniquely precious yet intrinsically linked and woven together with the words of The Haven poem written by a women in refuge and complimented by the uplifting music and lyrics, All Binds Fall Undone by In an Instant.

The art work was done by children across Belfast and Lisburn Women’s Aid projects and refuges. Through their work recurring themes of safety, home, family, feelings and relationships were explored, whilst learning to understand they are the heroes in their own stories. Mums joined children working on some of the canvases, with staff facilitating and encouraging free expression of feelings and thoughts.
